Amazon recently announced major layoffs and the discontinuation of the Crown channel on Twitch. Also, the Game Growth group is set to be closed, which assisted creators in the gaming world with marketing. Christoph Hartmann, Amazon Games VP, is quoted as saying the decision will allow Amazon to focus more on offering free games to Prime subscribers. Over 180 roles will be affected by the layoffs. Furthermore, it has been reported that the Crown channel used deceptive practices to inflate viewer numbers. The restructuring will refocus Amazon’s gaming efforts on creating games in-house and publishing games from outside developers. The full memo to staff from Christoph Hartmann has also been provided.
