Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter and the subsequent rebranding as X led to an exodus to alternative platforms such as Mastodon, Post, Pebble, and Spill. Despite this, few have matched the growth rate of Bluesky, which now has over two million users. It is a decentralized social app conceptualized by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, funded by Twitter initially but now independent from it after Elon Musk’s takeover. It has a Twitter-like interface and is free but invite-only. Notable figures like Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Chelsea Manning are on it, and it has been a hub for organizations and journalists. Bluesky remains customizable and secure, with features such as custom feeds and email verification. The app also tackles misinformation and security issues and has faced controversy surrounding moderation and racial slurs. Despite all of this, the app has continued to grow and gain popularity.
