Do you have it or have you ever experienced it? What is a power greater than yourself? The girls in there have very little education and some read on a 2nd grade level. The spiritual awakening as a result of these steps is very simple. How do I turn my will and my life over to God? Our problems, our worries and our pain. It's just saying "I'm willing to seek out whatever it is that has helped all these other people get clean.". The best advice I can give is just have them read the pages with you and move on to the third step. What are the three characteristics needed for "a God of our understanding?" I pray, only because it seems like the "normal" way for me to communicate with my higher power, but perhaps only because prayer is a way of higher power communication I'm familiar with.                                                 Resentments                                                                              Forgiveness. When we do this a very strange thing happens, we begin to gain power through the (WE) part of the program and the next Eleven Steps. So when I work with a sponsee regarding this issue I approach it from the perspective of compassion for others and for remembering when I hurt others while trying to get my own selfish electric needs met. It is anything that makes us aware of the insanity of a situation if we act out on a defect or negative will. The second thing we do in this step is we take the things we did not handle well and take a look at them. Let me explain, in the First Step we learned we were not responsible for having the disease (dependency) and therefore part of us. The program tells us God as we understood him. The second name on the list, ourselves. Pain many times becomes a power greater than ourselves. This part of the step can be difficult for some of us if we approach it with the wrong attitude. One way we do the footwork is to make a list of all our defects. 2. How did I make my decision? I am on my second step 1 with my sponsor, and about to do my first with a sponsee. 3. Grammar, spelling is not important. It is a new and exciting experience that will bring many changes into our lives. My sponsor explained that the second step is really just an intellectual idea. I found following direction from the Big Book precisely and with the suggested time scale (as fast as possible in my interpretation), has the most impact. Remember, it is a God of your understanding and a conscious contact you can relate to. So what I do with my sponsees is what my sponsor did with me. Our growth will astound us. All our steps begin with WE, except the 12th one, which has the word WE in the center. This is why we need meetings for the rest of our lives. 24. 18. Now having an understanding of the Second Step, look at some of the ways we can apply the Second Step into our life. If we are living the first three steps in our lives on all things, in other words, we are living mature and responsible, our higher power will work things out for us. and this is what we did, became entirely ready. The next part of the step we must look at is "To turn our will and our lives." The first way we applied this step when we came into the program was that NA becomes a power greater than ourselves. That is not the answer. At this point we must surrender and accept how powerless we are over our addiction. Are you responsible for your past? This is for you to have your own understanding of this step and how it works or may work in your life, not my understanding of it, yours. As addicts, sometimes we try to push our God and our beliefs about him onto other addicts. The type of honesty we are talking about here is self honesty. 1. I have been sober since March 24, 2009. 6.
